Bandhani/Bandhej is a form of Tie-Dye fabric printing technique in which the fabric is plucked by hand into tiny bindings to form a design. This complex and skilled form of printing has its origins in Gujarat, however different forms of Tie Dye printing are seen in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Punjab as well.
The term bandhani comes from the Sanskrit word bandh which means "to bind". This technique involves dyeing a fabric which is tied tightly with a thread at several points, thus producing a variety of patterns. The main colours used in Bandhani are yellow, red, blue, green and black.
